'Carticel' is the trade name given to the cell culture grown from a patient's joint cartilage, and then returned to the patient to replace damaged cartilage.

The surgical procedure of harvesting, culturing and replacing the cells is called autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI) or autologous chondrocyte transfer (ACT). 'Genzyme Biosurgery' is the company who developed the whole laboratory technique.
