The fascia lata is like a fine elasticated stocking at the side of the knee, which becomes a thickened band along the outer thigh.

The fascia lata is a network of fibres on the side of the knee, which can be pulled tight by the muscle called tensor fascia lata. This helps to stabilise the knee.
