Hematoma is the American spelling of haematoma, which is an abnormal swelling of clotted blood within a muscle or tissue layer.

Causes of hematoma

A hematoma may occur after blunt trauma, especially if the person is on anticoagulants. It may also occur after injections or after surgery.
