An intermuscular haematoma is bleeding in the tissue planes between muscles.

Intermuscular versus intramuscular

An intermuscular haematoma is generally not as severe as an intramuscular haematoma as the blood is able to spread more easily. Usually swelling and bruising 24-48 hours after injury but this often is seen further down the leg from the injury due to gravity.
