Re: 12 year anniversary

I'd like mine to last 30+ years too Icarus! For prehab, I still do basic quadsets to this day ... not to build muscle, but I find them an excellent 'calibration' exercise. If I can't freely and easily jam my kneeback into a floor using only my quad muscles and lift my heel (again using only my quad ...

12 year anniversary

Hi everyone, Been a while since I've been here and I hope everyone's doing great! Thought I'd mark 12 years since tearing my ACL, MCL and medial meniscus with a quick post. Firstly, I can't believe it's been 12 years! Secondly, I'm still playing soccer (indoor), had a great game last night (on the v...

Re: Intrasubstance micro tear of posterior horn of medial meniscus

Hi there, I'd guess more than half the population of the world have micro tears of their meniscus and will never do anything about it and probably don't even realise it. Per the OS instructions, it's nothing to worry about, you might even have it in your other knee too, which doesn't worry you becau...

Re: Longitudinal Meniscus Tear playing soccer

Hiya German, I agree, the pain will disappear and I think, for a repair, you are still in the healing zone. I hope you're not too worried or concerned, and I reckon in a year, 5 years and beyond, you won't remember a few more weeks here and there. For the first thing, when you say 0 degrees, do you ...

Re: Meniscus tear

I think prehab is always good, but if in doubt, what I do is go see a PT and ask them to CLEARLY EXPLAIN to me the difference between: a. pain because I'm injured and is ok to work through; and b. pain because the prehab I'm doing is causing me more damage Avoid (b) !!! I will also say that IMO it's...

Re: Meniscus tear

Im sorry to hear about your knee and wish you a fast and full recovery. Accidents happen but I wanted to ask if you feel your left knee was up to strength, especially given the procedures in Sep-13 ? At 25, I believe you should be able to go down stairs, miss one and still have muscles / knee struct...

Re: Lateral meniscectomy nightmare

... If I'd had my time again I would've taken a lot more time before going back into full sports (whatever you do) - spend more time rehabing the quads etc and making sure I'm 100% before going back. ... My view is docs should be more cautious in sending people back into activity following a menist...

Re: Popping sound

Popping feelings, sounds etc are quite normal after surgery.

I highly doubt you've messed up your knee, especially with stretching.

Re: Lateral meniscectomy nightmare

Hi there, I'm very sorry to hear about your knee and what you've been through. I've just had a meniscectomy on my medial meniscus, 25% or so removed (radial tear), and luckily for me, I have (so far, at 4 months) had the experience you were promised - meaning I'm back doing all things normally. As I...

Re: Is this a reinjury to my partial meniscectomy?

Sharp pain and lump under skin in the area of scar tissue sounds like it could also be adhesions. That's when the scar tissue gets torn (which is normal, but it still hurts!) as it moves around. After my knee surgeries (thankfully I've only had 2 and want no more), I was always advised to massage th...

Re: Longitudinal Meniscus Tear playing soccer

Hi German, Great to hear all is going well! Hope that the pain subsides quickly (I'm sure it will). Keeping quads strong is really important - I can't say enough about how important. When you say a leg curl, do you mean the hamstring one (IE lying on your back?) or a leg extension (where you are sit...

Re: Feeny's meniscus diary

4 Month Update Well, all things are going well. I have _mostly_ full flexion, when I say mostly, I mean completely functional, but 1-2 extreme flexing yoga poses aren't what they used to be (eg. sitting japanese, fixed firm pose). However, even these are improving all the time! I've played soccer a...
