Re: Severe Calf and Quad cramps 5 days post TKR

Having cramps is not uncommon. Your leg has gone thru a lot. You are now walking totally different since the TKR. You are now doing PT that is working the muscles while you are trying to get back your range of motion. I would try easy stretching for your calf and quad. But ask your PT first to make ...

Re: Recommended minimum age for TKR?

I had my right knee replaced at 45 after 13 surgeries. My left knee was replaced at 48 after 8 surgeries. I had a plastics revision on my left knee 3 years later. I am now 60 and both knees are still going strong. I went for the surgery because I literally could not do anything. I figured that I wou...

Re: RECOVERY FROM TOTAL KNEE ARTHROPLASTY

Its great to paint a pretty picture when all goes well and your an optimum canidate for the TKR. But not everyone fits that category. I had both of my knees replaced and neither knee was optimum canidates for this procedure. It was long enough ago that the minimal invasive surgery was not available....

Re: DENERVATION SURGERY

I have had the denervation surgery a few years ago in Baltimore. I actually saw Dr. Dellon but the surgery was done by one of his trained surgeons. I had a TKR that had problems. I had a lateral release then a partial revision but no pain release. When they did the test the see if the surgery would ...

Re: Total knee replacement v amputation

You two have extrodinary circumstances. I had 13 prior surgeries on my right knee. No knee cap and had my TKR at 45. Its now 13 years old and going strong. I had problems with PT and quit 2 highly recommended places. I finally found a place with a wonderful PT guy and he worked with me and my weird ...

Re: Total knee replacement v amputation

SolarCycle, Yes I got a little patella from some of the bone removed for the prothesis. It really did a good job in stabilizing my knee. I finally got full extension back and most of the strength back that I lost after the patellectomy. It still is not the greatest but since the knee was is terrible...

Re: Total knee replacement v amputation

I was 45 when I had my first knee replacement. I was not a prime canidate because I had had a marquet procedure and a patelletomy done. But I am now a month away from 58 and my knee is still going strong. So they really can't predict how long the replacement will last. I had the other knee replaced ...

Re: Screw removal

I had my screws removed from my ttt in the OS office. It was painful for just a couple of minutes. I walked out of the office unassisted and drove myself home. I also had a screw put in during my TKR as he did a modified ttt. I had that removed in the office too. Same deal, couple minutes of pain th...

Re: OS says a patellectomy vs PFJR for pain relief. Isn't this an old procedure?

I had a patellectomy. I would avoid it if at all possible. Once you have it done you lose about 30 - 40% of your quad strength and most likely will not get full extension back. It is a very drastic surgery. If I had known the long term ramifications of the surgery I would never have consented to hav...

Re: Can anyone reccomend good attentive physical therapists in Maryland, No. Va.?

I go to an excellent PT in Kensington, MD. IF you want to know about them send me a PM and I will give you their info. They have done more for my knees and other body parts than any office I have ever been to.

Re: Advice for a serious problem

I don't know about all your options but I do know about removing the knee cap. I had that done on my right knee as a salvage procedure to put off have a knee replacement. It was before the internet and doing easy research so I did not know the full ramifications of the surgery. Before going for that...

Re: I live alone.......

Actually you can do this alone. I did. I live alone and came directly home from the hospital after each of my TKRs. I was well prepared before hand. I had frozen food ready to pop into the microwave. I had the ability to use a grocery delivery service. I hired a maid service to come in every couple ...

Re: (revised) 37 yrs old 4 knee surgeries and still in pain. I need advice pls!

It depends on what is causing your pain. I would go for screw removal. That is such an easy thing that trying that to see if you get some relief is almost a no brainer. I even had that done in the doc office. If it does not help then its not that drastic of an attempt at getting out of pain. By the ...

Re: No knee cap for 15 years....ok for a few years now problems more aften

No a TKR only includes a knee cap resurfacing not a total replacement of the cap. They just shave off the back of the cap and put on a plastic button. If you don't have a cap there is nothing to work with. So there lies the problem. Thats when I got my pita pocket patella for my right knee. Its insi...

Re: No knee cap for 15 years....ok for a few years now problems more aften

Back in 87 they did not have replacement knee caps. Its a very recent advancement and not too many docs do it yet. You are not too young for a TKR. I had my first on at 45. But be careful because a TKR on a knee without a knee cap is an extremely tricky thing. There are a lot of OS that will not eve...
