Have you asked about patellar tendonitis? It may cause the bruising in the area you are talking about. If you are getting this regularly, I would get it checked out and def keep an eye on over use. 50 miles is awsome!

Nick, I understand what you are saying about the brace too, I only wear mine at night when I sleep. It helps get the swelling down. Have you thought of putting a brace or wrap on at night while you are sitting around to help with swelling? I find that sometimes the compression helps with the ice and elevation when I have been on my feet a long time. Glad you are enjoying so far.

A brace for after running may help with the swelling and make sure to ice after as well. When I was still running I found icing it after running then wearing a brace for a while helped.
