Re: ACL reconstruction 15 Years ago
I know GP's and Consultants and GP's are the bane of their lives walking into clinics with a hand scrawled note on a post it note. Consultants having to call Gp's for patients data only to be told to wait on the line. I have come across too many comical GP's and overworked Consultants who I truly ad...

Re: NHS or private treatment ?
Don't waste your money just go on the NHS - it's about 10- weeks slower for the initial appointment and operation but thereafter its the same Drs as if you were going Private. I would advise to do surgery on the NHS and physio privately. I have had 3 knee ops both privately and my friend has had 2 A...

Re: ACL graft choice
Dr Mark All reconstructions go through a process of ligamentisation where the tendons structure over time changes to become a ligament. The point I think is that many studies highlight the following 1) A quadruple bundle hamstring tendon has a higher tensile strength than a patella tendon. 2) Screw ...

GP are a waste of time if its more serious than a cold they are an absolute joke.
You can have no acl and still function fine I would bet its non acl related cartilage or tendon most likely.
Go see a specialist disregard GP advice right now - they are only interested in hitting targets.

Advice for all ACLers
I have had acl and mcl recon on my left knee and acl recon on my right knee. Below is what I have learned. Do not rush back your return no matter how much you want to play sports. I know you regularly hear that some are back 6 months post op but don't worry about that. In both my rehabs I found out ...

Re: New Rotosole Sneaker Could Save Knees
Unfortunately that has more to do with your Q angle which with your wider hips compared to men puts greater pressure on the knee. No trainers will change that.

Must read for all Allografters!

In summary they tested an allograft used in a reconstruction after 10 years and its histology was no different than a native acl. What was important is that it takes upto 1 year for the complex process of ligamentization to occur.

Re: New Rotosole Sneaker Could Save Knees
It's an old invention - surprised it has not made a greater impact. It will make little difference because you are more likley to twist your knee or do an acl when wearing boots with studs that stick in the ground. I have played a lot of soccer on hard surfaces with flat trainers and never once had ...

Re: Setbacks are all part of the rehab
Rest it, if its a muscle strain then rest it. It will heal up on its own. I overdid it on 3 occassions and puled hamstring, quad and back muscles. I finally learned my lesson - don't worry as long as you didn't twist or jar the knee you will be ok.

Setbacks are all part of the rehab
Rehab is not a linear linear that begins the moment after you wake up from the operation. Generally rehab is an upward sloping curve with some kinks and some troughs. Setbacks are all part and parcel of rehab - it's your own body trying to tell you - don't take it so fast I am only human! If setback...

Re: Swimming
I might just stop swimming. I am months post op Allograft. I did 30 mins swimming last week but I felt fine. No pain or swelling in the knee during or post swimming. Now I might just stop swimming as I like breast stroke for a few months.

Re: For all those 30 something Allografters!
The new autograft or allograft is a tendon - similar to a ligament but different. The single most important role the graft plays is to create a shell / scaffolding for the real brilliance of the body to take over and re-model that into a ligament.

For all those 30 something Allografters!
I am just 5 months post op and doing well in returns to strength and fitness. I was reading quite a lot about the remodelling process of allografts versus autografts. Allografts don't tend to work for very young active athletes as they return to sports perhaps 6-8 months down the line. However the a...

Re: Had a minor incident today - Knee Gods Angery?
Rest for as long as the swelling and pain go down - can take up to 2 weeks. Then spend a week stretching as everything heals up tight. Then take it from there. Trust me on this your knee is fine as you did no twisting movement or the knee buckled - your ACL is fine. Just like me take it a bit easier...
