Re: Bilateral TKR

Hi Marci, How are you doing? Has your sleep improved? What is it like being past 120 days? I am doing great and have been for the past 4 weeks. I am 10 weeks post-op and on the bike or elliptical for 30-40 minutes each day and also walking my 110 pound dog for 30-40 minutes tromping up and down our ...

Re: Bilateral TKR

Hi Marci, Good to hear you are doing well and yes I would agree that there were a number of things it would have been good to know before surgery. For me it would have helped with moderating my expectations. The sleeping on my back was a big challenge since I have not really done that for 2 years du...

Re: Bilateral TKR

Hi Marci, I hope this finds thing going well for you as your recovery continues. I am 3 weeks out and overall things are going quite well. The first week was rough due to significant swellling in both knees after being discharged om the 4th post-op day. It took about 4 days of elevation and icing to...

Re: Bilateral TKR

Hi Marci, Good to hear from and how you are doing. I was wondering about sleep position and it was helpful to hear what it was like for you. I am a side sleeper, more so since my spine surgery two years ago so I am not looking forward to sleeping on my back. Glad to hear things are easier. I am curi...

Re: Bilateral TKR

Hi Marci-Good to hear from you and get an update on your progress. It sounds like it has been a bit of a rough go although it does sound like your pain control has been worked out. I am curious if you given a recommendation for sleep position as a friend of mine who had bilateral TKR found that one ...

Re: Bilateral TKR

Hi Marci,
I hope your surgery went well and your recovery is progressing as planned. I am interested in hearing how things are going when you are up to it. I have a friend who had his bilateral TKR in April and by 5 weeks he was doing quite well. Take good car and don't overdo it.

Bilateral TKR

I have been away for a while as my knees have been doing great, sort of. In between 20 months ago I had a 4 level lumbar XLIF (extreme lateral interbody fusion) with PLIF (posterior lumbar interbody fixation)and had a great recovery. I refereed my first post op soccer match 11 months later and worke...

Re: Anyone Do Sports After TKR?

Jayhawk.......Thanks for the reply. I am curious what activities you do sports-wise. If you cycle, do you use Speedplay pedals? I spoke with my OS and that is what he uses ( has a bad knee from a soccer injury) as I have had problems sine my March scope when I get out of the saddle (unfortunately I ...

Re: Family Doesn't Understand

Glad to hear you are sleeping in your bed again, hopefully you will get some restorative sleep. Electrical stim can be used in many different ways. On many occasions I have had pain patients who found reasonable benefit from using a TENS unit at night to enable them to get better quality sleep. Thes...

Re: Family Doesn't Understand

This is a difficult situation and it is clear that your parents have little understanding of the individual differences in post-operative recovery. if you have a hydrotherapy facility you may wish to discuss this with your physical therapist. It may also be worth discussing the use of a TENS unit, p...

Re: Anyone Do Sports After TKR?

Those are impressive recoveries. I am putting off at TKR as I am just not ready to give up running which I do primarily when refereeing youth, adult , high school and collegiate soccer. I have had great recoveries from my knee procedures and it was the post-op rehab and really sticking to it, with t...

Re: Any Peroneal Nerve recovery stories?

Hi All, My peroneal nerve injury was a long time ago and recovery was a slow process. I resumed refereeing soccer while using the afo. I am fairly certain the gait alteration put some significant loads on my left knee which in retrospect I should have paid a bit more attention to. The various martia...

Re: MENISCUS TRANSPLANT - SOCCER/FOOTBALL

Striker, Your recovery sounds great so far. I understand living for futbol as a long time referee and have had great success for the last 6 years after a high tibial osteotomy, closing wedge. I'v got a bum lateral meniscus now, probably from the last couple weeks refereeing so tomorrow they will sco...

Re: CMI implant for lateral meniscus in South Africa

Robbie, What a great result so far. I am a soccer ref in the states, high level and have had great results from a closing wedge high tibial osteotomy 6 years ago. I have been able to ski virtually everything at Whistler BC and referee as much as I want. Unfortunately I have a tear in the lateral men...
