Sounds great
And very wise to resist sports till you're happy it's taken solidly!

Re: Post-op Diary, ACL hamstring autograft on NHS. Week 1-18
Week 18 Over the last 4 weeks I had a week of inactivity having the cough/cold/sore throat thing going round, and then another due to the snow/ice and deciding I didn't want to walk on that in the dark. Perhaps related I have put on a couple of Kgs weight :( Also I didn't work on flexion and this d...

Re: Post-op Diary, ACL hamstring autograft on NHS. Week 1-14
Week 14 [weeks 12 and 13 btw Merry Xmas, Happy New Year! I did minimal exercise with no particular issues] Kind of a bad news/good news week. Had my 2nd surgeon apt . Except he was on the phone and maybe didn't even notice me, I was actually seen by some assistant. He did a Lachman test (my first o...

Re: Post-op Diary, ACL hamstring autograft on NHS. Week 1-11
Week 11 I've been jogging a couple of times since then, and these times I did muscle strengthening exercises (going back to basics approach) prior to going on the treadmill which probably helped wake them up ready for impact. I am now jogging for 10 mins at a time. Both the subsequent times there wa...

Re: The 1% group who never regain full R.O.M.
Hi Emma,
I agree with Crumpet. There's a big difference between 'full ROM' and 100, and to be labelled a 1%-er sounds like writing you off. Ask your Physio which consultant(s) they recommend and try to get to see them so you'll get a joined-up view. And maybe try another Physio too...

Re: Post-op Diary, ACL hamstring autograft on NHS. Week 1-10
Week 10 Not such a good week really. On Monday I went jogging on the treadmill for the first time (first time in at least 5 years...), I jogged for 5 mins at a basic 9kmh and it started OK but gradually got sorer. Which I was fine with. But after I went on the bike to do my normal stuff and had to s...

Re: Post-op Diary, ACL hamstring autograft on NHS. Week 1-9
Week 9 A 12 hour flight back gave me the same aching weakness for a couple of days after. But randomly I was sat next to an orthopaedic surgeon about to attend a conference on Double Bundling. So we had a great discussion about it. His view was the fixation positioning is the most important thing fo...

Re: ACL Surgery "Not Needed" ?
Hi KK, I was in a similar position, injured at 34, at 35 told 'too old', can live a fulfilling life without pivotting sports etc... 3 yrs later I've had the op: - pain when twisting in seat in cinema, on bus etc letting people through. It's minor but I am reminded I know it's 'bad' - a pretty girl a...

Re: Anatomic Double Bundle ACL Reconstruction - A Mistake?
Hi Dancer49, That's a great point. I've just been chatting to a surgeon on his way to learn double bundle... He said it's all about fixing positioning. If placed right you will have a great knee. Apparently over time there has been a shift in the thinking of where the anatomically best fixing place ...

Re: Post-op Diary, ACL hamstring autograft on NHS. Week 1-7
Week 8 Involved a 12 hour flight to South Africa, knee was pretty stiff and twitchy-achy after but thankfully no DVT... Very hot and sunny in summertime ;D but Thankfully the hotel has a gym so i've been doing some cross-trainer and lots more wobble board. This is the first week I've not worn the tu...

Hi Macker,
Sounds like you got yourself into great shape for the op, and sounds like you're starting a great recovery - keep up the good work and let us know how it goes.
Cheers

Re: Post-op Diary, ACL hamstring autograft on NHS. Week 1-7
Week 7 The music festival was great, totally avoided moshpits and staggering drunks. On the Friday was on my feet for basically 10 hours, was very achy by the end. The next couple of days I included a lot more sitting down! Anyway I had just as much aching in my good leg so no problems. Otherwise in...
