Re: Has this happened to anyone?

Back in '05 I had a similar situation as yours. If you search for my name, my responses ought to still be accessible. Good luck.

Re: Should kneeling on an old injury hurt?

I did pretty serious damage to my knee in '05 & to this day I have about 30 seconds of kneeling w/o it becoming too painful to bear. As you say...just something you learn to live with.

Re: Sudden Knee Tendon Swelling After Taking Cipro

Because of the possibility of tendon tears or even ruptures, it's advisable not to give young dogs cipro. Not saying your issue is necessarily related to cipro but it's sure a consideration. Wishing you well.

Re: Is there an age limit for ACL reconstruction?

Vickster, just to clear the record. At 67 I was not only riding my horse daily but was mucking stalls at the farm & walking my 4 big dogs daily as well. I can assure you I was fitter than most 67 year olds & assuredly was in better shape than my young orthopod who was a sports medicine speci...

Re: Is there an age limit for ACL reconstruction?

I was told back in 2005 when I, among other things, ruptured my ACL that at age 67 nobody in the USA had ever had reconstruction.

Re: I am going mental.. Please help me out guys..

I'll play devil's advocate & say that 13 years ago I did considerable damage to my right knee & was told by the orthopod I was seeing that I was too old to have ACLr. I was 67 at the time. That being the case, I had the custom Townsend brace made & wore it when I wasn't riding my horse. ...

Re: To reco or not to reco?

I have a custom Townsend brace I wore quite religiously that first year after the accident. But over time I honestly found I didn't need it, not for riding my horse or walking all my dogs. It's nice to know it's there but I'm happy not to have to depend on it.

Re: To reco or not to reco?

FWIW, Maggies. I did some pretty heavy damage to my knee some 13 years ago at the age of 67. I was told at the time that I was "too old" for surgery. Your damage was more severe than mine but for 10 of those years after the injury I rode my horse daily. And now that I have back issues with...

Re: Learning to walk again after complete ACL tear

Valentin, I suspect my doctor was a bit archaic in his thinking. Chances were excellent that although I was decades older than he, I was far more active physically. But the bottom line is that beyond some minimal aches & pains in that knee, it's holding up far better than I ever thought it would.

Re: Learning to walk again after complete ACL tear

After I did all the damage to my knee I had an MRI but didn't see an orthopod for two weeks thereafter & by then I was walking quite well. My knee did give out occasionally. The swelling was still there but the pain was minimized & I was doing more walking every day, even doing hills. The or...

Re: ACL - Surgery or Not?

I'm living well w/o an ACL & have been for the last 12 years. It's only the last two year that I haven't been riding my horse but the knee has withstood lots of activity & done well. I was 67 when the accident happened & I'm now going to be 79. There is life beyond a ruptured ACL. Wishin...

Re: Skiing Accident - torn ACL and MCL - please advise and share your experience

I'm offering strictly personal experience here, Venus Sky. Back in 2005 my horse & I parted company & although I didn't have a hard landing, my knee was in a position causing me to hear two pops. Swelling & pain were immediate but I still got back on my horse to finish what I'd started. ...

Re: ACL surgery: Long-term side effects

"Do you know how old your friend was when he first hurt his knee and why he followed through with surgery on the other knee? I mean an important aspect would be the long-term implications for me, even if I quit contact sports." To be honest I don't know what possessed him to leave one knee...

Re: ACL surgery: Long-term side effects

I'll be glad to share my experience with you for whatever it may be worth. I ruptured my ACl & did other damage when I had what us horse people call an "unplanned dismount" from my horse. This all happened 11 years ago when I was 67 years old & my orthopod opined that people my age...

Re: How to help the cause of chronic pain sufferers?

I'm a medical marijuana user because like so many who were prescribed opioids, I was not happy taking them. I disliked having to increase dosage in order to get relief & so sought other means of dealing with chronic pain. Knowing that my state has legalized medical marijuana, I asked my pain man...
