Do you know who it was at HSS? I’m currently going there, just want to know if there is an arthofibrosis specialist you know of.Heather_M. wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2005 7:22 am I'm not sure if this method has been successful on scar tissue folks--it requires an external fixator for months on end. I can't think of anything more traumatic...I did correspond with one lady who had this done and she went through four months with the fixator. Four MONTHS. She had multiple infections. The fixator was removed, but last update I heard she still wasn't able to walk even a few steps. She had a setback and stopped communicating....not sure what to read in that. It happens a lot--people dropping off the scope.
So anyway, this method falls under the category of patellar tendon lengthening, and would presumably run the same risks as the other methods--namely, reappearance of scar tissue leading to contracture of the tendon.
I know that at least one doctor at the HSS in NYC performed this surgery a few years ago, you'd have to follow up with the orthopedics department to see if anyone is doing it now.
