Dr A A Shetty & TOSH Hospitals in India

Post by mccartjt »

I was reading of this website

http://www.theweekendleader.com/BrandZe ... -knee.html

where at the "TOSH" hospital in Chennai India one could get one's knee repaired (as opposed to being replaced) at around $2500/ knee.

The article references that these Indian surgeons have been associated with Dr Shetty in the UK who's been awarded the "Hunterian Medal" for his work in ACI - Gels & reconstructive surgery via arthroscopy that allow the repair of knees.

http://toshhospitals.com/doctors/

Has anyone researched this more than I have or has anyone had a procedure done recently by Dr Shetty? Or has anyone even gone to India for this procedure as yet? I'd love to hear all sorts of comments success and failure stories..

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas to all here!

A user called Dreamrunner had surgery with Mr Shetty about 18 months ago in the U.K. and posted an update in the last last couple of weeks.

Reflex_NL travelled to Kent from the Netherlands a couple of years ago, here's a thread, you can search his history

After my single step (it's usually step not stage) minced cartilage repair - I would really not recommend to travel somewhere to get it done. You will want to have some family members help you out the first 3-4 weeks. Well of course labor in India is cheap - so you can cheaply pay someone to treat you 24/7.

But you will also need to stay there for 4-5 weeks minimum before you can board a plane in economy. In business maybe after 3 weeks (everything going perfect).

So I don't think it makes much sense for someone from Europe to go to India for that surgery. If you have no health insurance covering it and are from US - then it could be very different (with the very high costs of surgeries in the US).
