Hi
Im looking for some help/advice - I have just had an MRI done after hurting my knee (again) on Xmas eve and the results have come back saying i have a 1cm Osteochondral defect at the lateral tibial plateau as well as some bone bruising.
ive been looking online at treatments etc but having trouble finding much - has anyone got any experience with this and if so what would can I expect moving forward?
thanks in advance
Osteochondral defect
Re: Osteochondral defect
Have a look through the KNEEguru site in the dictionary for articles around joint cartilage, repair, arthritis
/KNEEnotes/knee-dictionary/articular-cartilage-repair
This site will give you an insight into possible but options, but they vary by country, some are not really done now, some are very expensive and/or experimental (all surgical options will involve a long recovery and rehab with no guarantees).
If going the surgical route, you'll need a specialist who does these procedures, not any old knee surgeon
http://www.kneeclinic.info/problems_art ... tilage.php (a little old but things haven't moved on much, it's a U.K. site from a specialised centre)
How old are you? As that may also influence what can be done. However, it's always best to rehab fully and exhaust all conservative options first. Depends also on symptoms, size, depth and exact location of defect
Good luck

Re: Osteochondral defect
Hi
Thanks for the reply I will have a look through that info.
I'm 35 and had a tibial transfer on the same knee around 4 years ago.
Thanks again
