Cellulitis

Cellulitis is a severe inflammation of the layers just under the skin in the connective tissue.

Features of cellulitis of the lower limb

Cellulitis causes painful redness of the skin, and can sometimes become serious.

"Gram-positive cocci such as Streptococcus spp and Staphylococcus aureus are thought to be the predominant cause of cellulitis....[The patient's condition may range from....systemically well....[with no]....or well-controlled comorbidities....[eg obesity, peripheral vascular disease or venous insufficiency] to a limb-threatening infection due to vascular compromise...."
