One-legged balance

Written by Dr Sheila Strover on March 14, 2025

One-legged balance is a knee rehabilitation exercise to improve proprioception (or joint position awareness).

Restoring proprioception

With the eyes closed, and standing near a support, stand on one leg for 10 seconds. Open eyes, rest on two legs, and then repeat the exercise.

Patient standing on one leg, balancing with a hand held against a support.

The temporary loss of 'position-sense' (proprioception) is common after injury or surgery, and this is an exercise to improve things.
