The Schatzker classification is a visual system for the classification of tibial plateau fractures types I - VI.

Schatzker classification of tibial plateau fractures
This visual system allows the surgeon to readily recall the original injury from his notes, as well as indicating the severity of the fracture.

 

Schatzker Classification

  • Schatzker Type I - Lateral plateau fracture without depression.


  • Schatzker Type II - Lateral plateau fracture with depression.


  • Schatzker Type III - Compression fracture of the lateral or central plateau.


  • Schatzker Type IV - Medial plateau fracture.


  • Schatzker Type V - Simple bicondylar fracture.


  • Schatzker Type VI - Comminuted bicondylar fracture.
