Lubricant Injections

Post by Renoir »

I'm seeking some injections for my arthritic knees to reduce the inflammation level. My orthopedist offers cortisone and Euflexxa (similar to Synvisc) and I don't want any more cortisone.
1. Is there anything else on the market I can seek out?
2. I note that my local Blue Cross (US health private insurer) won't pay for either Euflexxa or Synvisc and both are expensive for out-of-pocket payment so a cheap alternative would be appreciated.

See this article - scroll down to "injection of other agents" - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3376243/ - Evidence based knee injections for the management of arthritis

Just out of interest there is another current discussion on KNEEguru about Anakinra, albeit for arthrofibrosis, but I note that the article above also talks about it - /forum/viewtopic.php?t=80717
